PCSW Committee Reports

Leadership Development

Provost Peter Nicholls charged the Leadership Subcommittee with making recommendations for advancing women in leadership positions at UConn specifically by recommendations to increase the number of women heads of academic departments at the University.

The subcommittee members expanded the Provost's charge to encompass the advancement of both faculty and staff women in leadership positions and the creation of a campus environment in which women-students, staff, and faculty can develop and exercise their leadership skills. To that end, we set two principal themes to guide our work:

. Women in decision-making processes at UConn: Who are the decision-makers? Who controls resources? Who has access to resources needed for demonstrating and exercising leadership?

. Mentoring women's leadership development: How can we create a network or system to support women leaders and encourage all women to develop their leadership potential?

Report from May 2006
Extensive report outlining the subcommittee charge including a report on exsisting resources on campus, women in academic leadership positions at UConn, an investigation of women's leadership programs at peer institutions, conclusions and recommendations, and information on gender equity on campus.
